And water is the only lube that should be employed, standard lubes will tend to seal in the gingery essence. However, my local Chinese grocery does have small reasonably-priced bottles of ginger oil... In my experience, having been on the giving and receiving end of this, the sensation is significantly less after about fifteen minutes and is gone soon after that, so leaving it in for hours would not work. The main safety issue seems to be (from reading the figging sites) that there is a chance that someone is allergic to ginger. This is easily tested by rubbing the peeled root against the skin on the forearm and waiting to see if there is a reaction. I suppose you could replace the root every fifteen minutes so that the burning does not stop. This would be cruel and unusual punishment. However, you may be both cruel and unusual. | |
