| Forum Initiate United States 16 Posts | I prefer Ma'am for a couple of reasons... First, if we are out in public, a well trained sub can still call me Ma'am without getting too many stares from the religious right. And, since I live in the buckle of the Bible Belt, that is a good thing. Around here, someone calling me Mistress woud get me tarred, feathered, and run out of town on a rail. (which, by the way, sounds very funny, but it is actually a very painful way to die.) Secondly, I could never really get into somone calling me Mistress all the time...Since I am "mature" anyways (hehe) I don't mind the age connotation in the word Ma'am. Growing older is mandatory...growing up is optional. "If you argue for your limitations, you get to keep them." - Richard Bach | |

| Forum Initiate 13 Posts | I have to agree, Mistress makes me feel like some married man's affair and Ma'am just sounds old. I always loved the ring of "Master", and I like to use the masculine. Gender bending has always been a bit of my thing and I often identify myself in a masculine role. I really like the "Madame" idea, though. Reminding me of the use of "Madame" for a female pimp is quite nice, one of my greatest fantasies is pimping out my sub. | |

Forum Regular United States 879 Posts | In the beginning when I started getting seriously into S&M I did find the term "Mistress" strange on account of the usual meaning. But somehow,it became more of a female term for "Master". Also, I haven't used it yet,but Madame does sound very elegant. You either take it all or reverse roles. If You choose to reverse roles....You better be fucking good at it.

| Forum Initiate United States 20 Posts | I usually use the honorific "Mistress," but you do make valid points that the term perhaps describes one as an adulteress, rather than a Domme. I was initially required to always, always address my Domme with "Mistress," but W/we found that it was a bit awkward when used in public. "Ma'am" is still used commonly, carries a less negative stigma, and is more discreet to use around vanilla folks (in my opinion). Either title works just fine, what's important is the dedication and submission from the sub saying it to you. | |

Forum Apprentice United Kingdom 178 Posts | SeansMistress: Mistress. I am in a monogamous marriage. Its always yes Mistress or no Mistress. "no Mistress" ? When would that be appropriate? At the moment I'm enjoying being called "Sir" by my subbie hubbie, but we play around with various words.

Forum Initiate United States 4 Posts | ftcollinsfrisky: Livany: I am Ma'am. Mistress is a title that someone I have a long standing relationship can earn the right to call me. But it's a more formal title in my eyes. -- "It's not the men in my life that counts--it's the life in my men."- May West "I don't have any plans - just a great outfit and bad intentions." -Sundayhangover.
Personally I prefer Lady unless being addressed by someone who wears my own personal collar. Mistress I feel is a title that should be considered sacred to those that are actually your owned. lol hey maybe you can call me Mistress little miss frisky
