My mother actually never said this to me. What she said was "I know lots of parents tell their children they hope the children will have children just like they were, but.... I love you too much to wish that on you." _shock

She now claims she was joking.....And I always thought I was such a good girl, too. _big

Shifty, I feel for you.....do I ever! Called my parents this morning, as today is their 40th anniversay and I hadn't talked to them for week [they'd been away recreating their honeymoon, same hotel and everything....] and there were definitely moments of too much information. It would have been easier to take if they were as amusing as your mother. _sad

Most of the time, she isn't quite so bad. _sad And we do have a fairly open & blunt relationship. But she's decided that (since it isn't clear that the chemotherapy she is undergoing is working) that she is going to drop the emphasis she's always had on delayed gratification and enjoy whatever time she has left. {We tease her that I was born in May and my brother in June so that she could spend half of each year, when we asked for a new toy or book, saying 'put it on your birthday list' and half the year 'put it in your Christmas list.'}

But she really could have stopped after telling me that they got the same room they had 40 years ago and that the beach was as deserted as it was then......_shock

biddy,
who really does love her parents even though she thinks her mum went to the same 'can't be lied to' training that Shifty's mum did......
