Forum Maniac United Kingdom 2,723 Posts | Actually the sad thing is that there was recently a program on Brit radio which had people complaining that things have got so bad that even their own surnames were being blocked as unaccpetable on some servers and systems. I'd mention the names but they'd have to be deleted or kill me instead! Sheesh what a world. I hope my mother ship comes and picks me up soon - it's not fun on this planet anymore. -- ICM aka Master Ice aka Dr DeMento Antiquis temporibus, nati tibi similes in rupibus ventosissimis exponebantur ad necem

Forum Regular United States 947 Posts | Hi aiken This shouldnt come as a surprise to anyone, we have been headed this way for a long time. Look at the way Ebay and paypal have been configured for some time now. This is the result of some very smart thinking, for without the means to transfer funds via the internet, most pay sites will die and without the revenue streams from member paid or advertiser paid the sites die as well, at least in the form they are today. The fact is we are a minority and one it is very ok to discrimnate against. Not that Visa really cares what we do one way or the other, they simply dont care, but by taking actions like this they reap two advantages, first they can defend themselves against any claim they are in the smut peddling market in any way. But the most important reason is as usual political, like you said, it is the passage of new laws that allow credit card companies to go to extreme levels against anyone they have a complaint with. The law has gone so far to their side of the board that it is now ok for creditors to seize peoples bank accounts, I am not talking about the guy making several hundred thousand a year, it is the little guys they are going after now. The people who like most of us live paycheck to paycheck who find when they go to buy food for their children, they no longer have any money and have 10,000 dollar charges against their bank accounts. I just saw this happen up here in NY and am hearing it is starting in other places. If you have credit problems and do direct deposit, I would seriously consider your options, because you could not only lose any balance, you can also lose your next check or two until you can get your employer to stop sending your check their. I am also expecting the number of garnishment actions to increase. Try living when it dosent do you any good to work because all of your pay is taken from you. Remember the hard core right thinks they are doing what is good for you and the left could give a rats ass. Charles "Those who would trade freedom for security deserve neither." They are California based and subject to the same credit companies aren't they? Ineed they are. They may go through different intermediaries who may interpret and/or enforce the rules differently, or it may just be that they make so much more money than us that VISA and/or the intermediaries are less aggressive in this area. Moderate Extremist United States 7,074 Posts | Ok Aiken this isn't one of my area of expertise but as I understand it the problem herein is that VISA being a third party private company is obviously not constrained by the Constitution which is a legal agreement between Government and Citizens, and as such they can basically call the shots... So, my query is, and as I say it's not something I really know much about so please do enlighten me, but... what's stopping you from going to a direct payment system like Paypal? Yes I understand it'd be something of a workload to enact such a migration but when we're being essentially forced into an unconstituational situation I think it would be worth it and I'm sure others than just I would be willing to help out with the workload on a purely voulenteer basis... I know it's a nasty situation but two the highest legal statuates in our land are those guarenteeing us freedom of speech and freedom of publication and at the end of the day if you can find a way around the private influence of the third party company then the only way to deny bondage.com and it's contributors, at least those of us who are in the U.S, that would be to ammend the Constitution, which isn't going to happen.... Maybe I'm missing something - is the whole direct payment/paypal thing more complicated than I'm envisaging?
