I've always had a soft spot for geeks. Admittedly, the ones I know are not unpleasantly aromatic, just very smart, amused by esoteric things, and not always the best at small talk. And sometimes, maybe, they do value their friends too much, and probably, at some point in their lives, have resented feeling ostracized. But they're adults now, and usually have a sense of humor about themselves.

Most of the situations described in the original post apply to a variety of lifestyles. I've encountered them in both the goth-bdsm scene at the Inferno in Madison and within the swingdance community. Not sure about my opinion about any of them .. I think I come down in the middle. If so many of us geeks behave this way isn't it a major part of our culture? On the other hand, does going to the extreme with these cause us to do our communities harm? Still thinkin' ....

It is too bad that your words (BlackFlame) will probably be read by the proper person but not heard. How fortunate he is to have this "enabling environment" so he himself can behave in such a dysfunctional and cruel manner. Perhaps he would "grow the hell up" if he heard his own words. Until then i say "fuck him", he really matters so little.

His words are written as a matter of perspective. This is still his opinion and he is entitled to that.

His opinion just happens to be skewed by the fact that it is not widely accepted. In fact most people look at him with pity for being so sad.

But his opinion is still his to express. No matter how foolish it is.
