Forum Maniac United States 3,241 Posts | One of my passions is body art, and creating artistic cuttings in particular in sacred space has been a dragon I chase for many years. In teaching the art peoples reactions and their personal experiences never cease to touch and astound me. Bringing it to the vanilla world my practice of course draws scorn, yet when people see the art they often change their minds, and in sacred space I have seen remarkable changes in people who submit to this form of art. Indeed it has changed me in how I see people of alternative practices as a community when they chose to form unions and in how our practices while wonderful when hedonistic and profane can reach a different place that is very special in it's own right. Transcendence is even possible and is both life affirming and profound in how it can change a person, mark time, and even healor reach resolution. Forum Apprentice United States 156 Posts | Years back I underwent a series of cuttings. I have 3 total. Each larger than the first. I traveled down that path for spiritual reasons, and the reward was beautiful. The release in the moment is unmatched, and the designs are lovely after healing. Especially the last. It's a crane (bird) that extends down my left thigh. The experience is intense. Moving through life, marked as I am, has brought many stares of disgust from others. I don't mind, however, as I have done this for myself, and no one else. I wear my scars with pride. They were a rite of passage. | |

Forum Regular United States 879 Posts | I wish I can say my scars were spiritually related,but they are no where close. But from what I've heard they can be quite beautiful. You either take it all or reverse roles. If You choose to reverse roles....You better be fucking good at it. | |

Forum Apprentice Canada 359 Posts | Hi Sol, That's a really pretty avatar picture. The photos I'm able to view are also lovely. This is a very intense "actvity" that I've never explored myself. I do admit though, that I find ritual & artistic cuttings and brandings very intriguing. I've had a long standing interest in body art, as well as a fascination with other people's scars. I think it would be very interesting to take pictures of someone who incorporates these things into a spiritual practice. I hope this thread gets some good responses. I'm interested to hear what people have to say. | |

Forum Maniac United States 3,241 Posts | For me cuttings were initially about primal power. There is that intensity when in passion you cut into skin to own and to lust. This still gets me hard and is definitely a valid form of expression however much some may vilify it. However, my exposure to tattooing and seeds left from exposure to the Modern Primitive movement brought me to an appreciation and then avocation for many forms of body art including this. So I learned first to tattoo and then branched out to scarification. Not a lot of people really invest in developing cutting as art, so a lot of what I did was try new things and find different ways to influence ..note I did not say control, the trauma and scarring wen intentionally irritating, damaging or coloring skin. Sometimes I can still get lost in technique. Later I came to work with people in rites of passage ceremonies and other forms of ritual space and became witness and facilitator to, and then a participant in transcendence and what many would call Shamanism or other names. It was difficult for me as the woo was not really voluntarily with me. However, what I have seen cannot allow me to wash the woo from my life. So I have learned to ask why less often and accept. Time is bringing a little understanding...maybe. This is something I do for fun as well as to take journeys and both are a wonderful and vital part of my life. Sorry some cannot see all of my images. I lack the eloquence to describe the places a good cutting takes the participants. I do enjoy the artistic aspect of scarring, and must say the work I can see on your profile is beautiful. Forum Newbie United States 57 Posts | *sigh* Where to begin? I've cut people. I've also cut myself. Each time it's ugly and artless, but i couldn't have it any other way. No designs, no disinfectant, no restraints. If no one's torn up and bleeding, it's not sexy. The only reason i'm not a scab-covered bloody mess right now is my low pain tolerance. I think it's kind of meaningless. It's just something which i associate with sex, for whatever Freudian reason, not some religious experience. | |

Forum Maniac United States 3,241 Posts | @Mistress_Dez It is not as easy as it may seem to do what you are looking for but it is possible. However, I have done this kind of work in the past and it has been ry rewarding. What you have to do is get a trace of the existing scars and overlay the new design pattern. This helps a lot but the cutter has to be able to adapt the design on the fly. Some things you can freehand, but with scarification I prefer not to. It is a bit of a trick to get consistency in scarification with multiple sessions. The condition and health of the body really effect scarring.
