Its a HP 6736 short tower.

I tried before from the inside and couldn't get to where I thought I had to be.

Does it come out from the front?

Another question.

I am using a Dell GX 150 now with XP pro and haveing trouble getting more then one window open at a time. Is there something I have to check/change?

Any help will be appreciated.

On the HP 6736 DVD drive come out from the front.
You will need to remove the front panel from the front of the case.
Look for screws that might secure the front panel to the case. Remove them if found.
A pair of bent needle nose pliers might help to gently pry it loose.
Use the a pliers on the plastic clips behind the front panel.
Do not use it on the front of the panel.
If the plastic clip is the tube type gently squeeze both ends and pull the front panel out towards you don't in in a rush to pull it out. You might crack the other clips if you do.
If there the slot type clips Life the catch until it clears the edge and slowly pry the front panel off.

There maybe one screw holding the drive in from the side.
remove power and data cable
replace the cd/dvd drive.
If drive you replace is IDE make sure the jumpers are in the right place.
Your dvd drive should be sata and jumpers are not an issue in that case.

Dell GX 150
I think that a P3 machine. You might need more sdram memory on the computer. You computer might be swapping memory use with the hard drive. Which will slow that kind of machine way down due it being an IDE base machine.
You might want to consider using wink 2k or 98 on that old of a machine.

There is a free program called CCleaner that will empty all your tempoarary files, cookies, etc in one swipe. If the computer suddenly slowed down its either full of sh!t and needs some house cleaning OR has a virus. Try running your spyware programs, adaware and spybot both have free utilities that are very good. NEVER pay for those three programs they are FREE!!!
There is also a possibility that you have a rogue program filling up your cache or maybe dead RAM, but try the simple stuff first.

Adaware: http://www.lavasoft.com/ On the right hand side you'll see the various versions the free one is the green link.

CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/download the download is from file hippo

Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Make sure all three programs are up to date. Spybot has a teatimer setting that (once you are fairly sure the puter is bug free) will monitor your registry and stop some infiltrations, its annoying as fuck for the first few days as it gets used to your regular behavior but I recommend it for people that aren't that computer saavy...if it asks if you want an .exe to unpack and you didn't download it, thats what we call a hint that its a bug LOL.
Hope that helps.

The Dell OptiPlex GX150 are typically Celeron P4 or in the tower case P4.

They should be able open more then one window at a time, but I world disable the video fading that's part of Windows.

It's in the performance settings.

Its a P 3 with 512 of memory.

It starts off with seperate tags then goes into one. Right now 3 are in one.

Had it apart (the HP) once before and it seemed like screws on the other side that I couldn't get at. I think you guys gave me enough to get it out but right now I have a few higher priories. Hopeing to get to it before the weekend is out.

I like the ME better then this. (old dog,new tricks)

Thanks a lot guys.

I could have sworn I have some GX150s with P4 CPUs in them.
I could be wrong, I don't use them for much anymore.

I'll check, I have a few in storage.

Obviously something is off with my recollection, because the one I have here is in fact a Celeron P3.

Toon

We'll get to the bottom of this, but I would still disable the fade features from the OS because the video 'accelerator' isn't very powerful.

Try changing to a slightly more modern P4 system with at least 1GB of ram.... _wink ....FFS, I've been seeing P4 systems at business liquidation auctions for under $100, P3s (when they sell at all) are less than $40.

My mistake, the P4s were the Dell OptiPlex GX240. They look the same outside (save the labels), and I bet the boards can be swapped, but you're right all the GX150 I have are P3 or Celeron P3.

Sorry for the added confusion.

Now for an annoying side note, if your OS and code are all 16 bit you might be better off with the P3.

That said Windows XP is not 16 bit.

Toon

Still all of these systems are starting to show their age.
Even the GX240 with the P4.

If you're running a P3, you could probably get a whole new netbook for the price of basic upgrades.

Kind of makes the whole thing not worth the effort.
