Forum Maniac Canada 4,457 Posts | The first question I always ask in support: is it a need or a want? It should be a need, because you will have to be prepared for a lot of harsh things a transsexual faces in society. Potential loss of family, of friends, and even job. The names that will be called when first starting out. Generally if it's a need, then the person is more prepared for this. Hormones: get checked medically to see if first you can take them. There are situations where they cannot, either allergies or underlying health conditions. Myself I can take them, but I've had to reduce them since I had a mild heart attack in November (mild... sure lol). Once done, it should be prescribed, starting at low dosages and slowly over time and monitoring be increased. Hormones alone won't be effective. An anti-adrogen should be taken otherwise you will be taking the hormones for basically nothing at all, the effects will be severely minimized (and yes, with the anti-adregens Mr Winky will have an extremely hard time). A person shouldn't self dose, particularly a lot at once. More doesn't = better results. Electrolysis/laser - laser works only on darker pigmented hair. Electro works on all hairs, but can be extremely costly to some (I know TS's who had to go 2 sessions a week for 6 years at $60 a pop) but probably more generally effective. If you go laser - medical laser only, don't go to a beautician for it, you'll waste money. And electro isn't temporary - once the hair is killed and removed totally over time, it's not supposed to grow back. Nails - any nail shop. For your own grown, take extra vitamin E and use a hardener/nutrifier. Estrogen will make the nails generally more brittle during transition. If you don't need surgery (I say need and not want, because there is a difference) that's fine, I really wish well, but please do get a good check done to see if you can take the hormones. Depending on your region there is likely a TS friendly doctor nearby who will check and may even prescribe after, and monitor. My friend Lynn in Ottawa has a site that has some documentation on hormones and such: slave petra

Forum Newbie 77 Posts | My best friend is a male who has taken hormones and has lived as female full time (including legal change of name) for over a year. Then put it on hold for personal reasons, and is now considering continuing towards full sex change. Send me your personal email if you'd like and I will forward it to him, I'm sure he'd be happy to discuss it with you. Crazy Cat Lady Canada 8,026 Posts | Electrolysis2000 can remove all your body hair in just three two day treatments forever. Is this a product or a salon. I did a google search on this and all I found was a salon and nowhere did it say removal of all body hair in three two days treatments. As an aesthetician, I happen to know this is IMPOSSIBLE. For one, you cannot guarantee something like that because everyone's hair follicles are different. If this is however a product I have not heard of, I would like to know more about it as it will surely put myself and my peers out of business.
